Polyethylene welding - How to weld PE?

The welder that we will use today to weld polyethylene is BOSITE-PID. including a 350 liter blower. Such a device is very efficient and allows us to work indefinitely. The work that can be performed with this device is similar to the device we have already presented for polypropylene welding
 

As in the case of welding polypropylene, we will use a nozzle:

• narrowing nozzle
• quick welding nozzles,
• scrapers

 

Before starting the correct welding - it is worth checking what type of polyethylene you will be welding. Therefore, we check if possible the correct marking of the material. If we are not able to estimate it - we must first test the strength of the weld with other plastics. In our guide, he shows how to properly prepare the surface. An ideal solution for this type of task is a scraper or a manual scraper. If you have a milling machine, you can also use it. The most important thing is to get rid of unwanted particles and residues.

 

The Bosite PID is handy and has great performance.

 

After preparing the surface, the key will be to choose the binder. I marked the word "key" on purpose, otherwise we may not be pleasantly surprised and the materials may simply come off or stick badly.

For this kind of task - I am looking for a binder - preferably 100% granules - avoid Chinese mixtures - with garbage. I recommend checking those tested and used by repair companies and mechanics - see such binders HERE.

We select the appropriate thickness. In our case it is FI 4.

We set the right temperature - about 280 degrees. We wait until the device reaches the right temperature. Before starting polyethylene welding, we test a sample of the material to see if it fuses properly.

We start welding by heating the substrate and the binder itself. Press at the right angle. (see video).

 

 

Remember: Good polyethylene welding is: Correct selection of the filler metal and a good welding method.

 

 

At the very end, put the welder down, press it and only then release the binder. When the element cools down - cut off the tip and grind the whole, giving the whole aesthetics.
