Emergency repair of a cracked and wet pipeline

Step by step how to do it

 

Surface preparation: locate the crack in the pipe carefully and relieve the pressure. Remove any paint and rust from the pipe surface around the crack with a wire brush, hand grinder or coarse sandpaper. The rougher the surface, the better the composition will stick. The surface of the pipe can be wet or submerged in water.

Preparation of the station and auxiliary materials: due to the very short hardening time of W-METALL, KEMISPOX FE21 compositions - approx. 3 minutes - the station and all auxiliary materials should be carefully prepared before repairing. When repairing larger holes and cracks, it is advisable to use fiberglass reinforcement (bandage, mat), fine metal mesh or sheet metal. The auxiliary materials used should be dry, clean and free of grease. Before the repair, cut out the appropriate profiles from the mat so that they fit well to the repaired places. Sheet metal "patches" should be profiled so that they adhere well to the surface and roughened with coarse-grained sandpaper

Preparation of the composition: the components are mixed very thoroughly with each other (possibly by adding the THIXO component to thicken and improve the thixotropy of the mass). It is not necessary to add THIXO when repairing horizontal surfaces where the composition will not drain. We mix the liquid and powder components in such a proportion to obtain the most comfortable consistency for the repair.

Applying the composition: we apply the composition to the damaged place with a spatula. First, we apply a small amount of the composition and very carefully rub it into the metal, and then apply the necessary allowance. If we use reinforcement, we apply the composition separately to the mat, bandage or sheet and apply them to the previously applied composition to the damaged area. Then the edges of the "reinforcing patches" or the entire repaired area are covered with the composition.

Completion of the repair: after the composition has hardened (approx. 3 minutes), it is possible to mechanically or manually process the repaired area. We run it with a file or hand grinder.
