What are Methacrylate adhesives?

Methacrylic adhesives - structural (construction adhesives) can be used to connect various surfaces that require aesthetics and high strength. A considerable advantage is the fact that we can combine two different materials such as metal with plastic or composite, where other joining technologies are not applicable at all. Adhesives such as Acralock Sa 1 can in many cases replace riveting, spot welding or even welding - the time to gain a joint is lower, without the need to use specialized equipment such as riveting machines or welding machines; A great advantage is that people who stick to glue do not need special training to apply such glue, and that these adhesives are not toxic and there is no need to adapt the workplace by installing, for example, special air extractors. It is also worth noting that with this generation of adhesives, the preparation of the glued surface has been reduced to a minimum, which results in further cost reductions (in most cases it is enough to wipe with acetone or isopropene alcohol). If the adhesive is applied appropriately, the bonded material is damaged after tearing tests.

A very big advantage is also the ease of calculating the cost of a given connector. (we do not have to add the costs of additional machines, employee training, equipping the place of glue application, etc.), which significantly reduces the costs for a given connector.

The latest generation of Acralock methacrylate adhesives combine the highest (even as for methacrylate adhesives) the highest bond strength and resistance to vibrations and impacts (Acralock SA 10 HV - expansion up to 200%).

Main Applications:

  1. gluing in places of riveting (better distribution of force over the entire surface)
  2. gluing instead of welding (better force distribution because we glue over the entire surface)
  3. bonding materials as diverse as plastics with metals spot bonding (such as riveting and welding)
  4. joining plastics with plastics (e.g. pmma with each other where perfect transparency is needed, or gluing strips in PVC windows - perfectly white glue)

Selected materials that can be joined with Acralock adhesives:

  1. raw ferrous and non-ferrous metals (all metals without surface preparation and primers)
  2. coated metals (e.g. powder coated, galvanized, galvanized, etc. without primers)
  3. plastics (polyolefins - properly prepared surface)
  4. composite materials such as glass fibers, carbon fibers etc.
  5. gelcoats
  6. epoxies
  7. polyesters
  8. acrylics

  1. The above surfaces can be glued together and with the other materials mentioned.

A few selected specific applications:

  1. gluing spatial letters "dibond" and "plexiglass" in advertising companies
  2. construction of semi-trailers and metal structures in vehicles structures in the nautical / shipbuilding industry
  3. joining composites in the aviation industry and renewable energy (propeller blades)
  4. structural reinforcements in ships, boats, cabins, etc.

Advantages of using Acralock adhesives: reduction of element weight (especially in aircraft structures) quick and easy application resistance to various factors such as acids, salts, lubricants, gasoline, etc.
