In the next - second article, we will continue the problem of repairing and protecting metal elements. We will take a closer look:

1. Protection against cavitation, abrasion, abrasion, etc., damage to rotors, air conduits - transport and chutes, as well as propellers, stone impacts, etc.

2. Protection and protection against acids, aggressive chemicals in chemical lines, steel drums and other containers or tanks,

3. Anti-corrosion protection and repairs of steel and cast iron.

Protection of metals against cavitation and abrasion - method 1

If the resulting cavities are larger than a few centimeters, holes and cracks are formed, first fill the surfaces roughly with metallic masses from the KEMISKIT AL21 / FE21 / MED21 series, then move on to the next point and proper protection with the Kemispox A21 version. This adhesive has mineral additives with a high degree of resistance to abrasion. We perform such a repair in the following stages:

- we remove loose elements or those that may be torn off in a moment,

- we clean the surfaces physically by grinding the whole surface and roughening it to increase the catch points,

- we degrease the surfaces chemically with: isopropyl alcohol or pure acetone,

- we prepare the mass of KEMISPOX A21 (we mix two ingredients in a proportion of 2: 1),

- we apply with a spatula or a stiff brush

Things to remember - important tips:

1. Rub into the surface with thinner layers so that there is air between them and that the first layer binds well with the substrate.

2. Recommended layer of at least 1 millimeter - if we were to apply more than 1 cm. It is worth using Kemispox metallic materials

3. The layers can be applied even after the previous one has hardened. e.g. when we want to equalize or we have given too little product.

Protection of metals against cavitation and abrasion - method 2

We can approach the repair by sticking anti-abrasion mats, and we can then choose the following - proposed by us:

- polyurethane mats - in the case of irregular, rounded substrate, etc., because polyurethane is a flexible or hard-elastic product - we glue it with Acralock SA 1, ATK PU 16, Acralock PP 1-02 or ATK 901 glue - here there is quite a large dependence on the type of polyurethane we choose because it is a wide range that differs not only in abrasion (recommended for anti-abrasion and anti-impact surfaces)

- rubber mats made of EPDM - we use ATK 901, ATK PU 16 or in the case of very small ATK FIX (especially recommended for protection against impacts)

- for flat surfaces polyethylene PE 1000 with high slipperiness - we glue PP 1-02 (mainly small and medium elements due to the application time is approx. 2-3 minutes) (high abrasion resistance)

- metal spacer - i.e. sticking the same or different metal with greater abrasion resistance to Acarlock SA 1-15, ATK EP 61, Kemispox AL21 / FE21 / MED21 adhesive (the metal spacer can serve not only as the last layer in contact with the material, but also as an additional reinforcement and stiffening of the entire structure and then possible gluing of another layer or application of the A21 product)

Below are the most common questions asked by customers.

How long does such a surface last before abrasion?

It depends on the type of abrasive material and its intensity, but using Kemispox A21 materials we obtain abrasion that exceeds most metals due to mineral additives; In the case of sticking a different material (in the second method), we must check the abrasiveness of the mat / spacer that we want to stick.

What is the performance of KEMISPOX sand?

It depends on the thickness of the layer that we apply and even giving the performance of the FE21 mass, the weight of which is 2.6 g / cm2, i.e. with 1 g, we can cover 3.8 cm2 with a 1mm layer. These are still calculated values because in a real repair we will never calculate what layer we will apply.

Protection of metals against acids and chemicals

So, a kind of protection and protection against aggressive factors. We do it as follows:

  • we prepare surfaces physically and chemically (discussed earlier)
  • if there are losses over a few millimeters, fill them with fe21 / al21 / med21 masses
  • mix KEMISPOX KO in the right proportion and apply with a brush or spatula, rubbing in well; the surface to be covered should be 1-2mm maximum. (double coverage recommended for 100% certainty of tightness if the first time was not accurate)

You probably also ask yourself what factors protect these products.

Kemispox s manufactured on the basis of epoxy resins, which means that it is resistant to water, ethanol, lubricants, gasoline, coolants and light / non-concentrated acids, in the case of concentrated acids, it should always be coated with the KO version.

Protection and protection of metals against corrosion (steel and cast iron)

Protection against corrosion as well as against external / environmental influences of metal surfaces is very similar to the above methods:

- we clean physically, removing rust-corrosion and all loose elements, also remembering about layers of varnish, paint, etc.

- degrease surfaces

- in the case of holes, large cracks over a few millimeters - use Kemispox al21 / fe21 / med21

- in the case of only unevenness up to a few millimeters, we use Kemispox A21

To what extent do these products protect against corrosion and how do they differ from varnishes, paints and generally used, available preparations?

These are products used in industry, proven and tested, after protection, corrosion will not come out in half a year or a year, as is commonly the case. The board, the secured surface will survive even several dozen years.
