How to make plexiglass welding (PMMA)?

Plexiglass or Plexiglas are quite popular materials when it comes to welding plastics. Today we will show you how to do it with a Bosite device, the Bosite-S model.

 

 

What will we need apart from the device itself?

• Quick welding nozzle 6.5 x 5 mm
• Pre-connection nozzle
• Reduction nozzle 5 mm

 

Before starting welding, we remember to prepare the surface for welding. We do this in two ways: the first - it does not require large steps, because we only need to degrease the surfaces AT THE JOINTING POINT with an isopropanol-based degreaser or alcohol. If it is a thicker material, e.g. 5-7 mm - we recommend milling the surface before welding.

We turn on the device with a view to controlling the temperature - which is helped by the display located in the handle of the welder. Before switching on, we put on the quick welding nozzle. We set the temperature to approx. 320 degrees C.

 

The digital display allows you to control the temperature of the Bosite-S.

 

The video shows, among others, fillet welding, where at an angle of 45 degrees we perform preliminary joining with a preliminary welding nozzle. After finishing, hold the element for about 5-10 seconds until it cools down. It is usually best to pre-weld on both sides to keep the part stable. (especially recommended for thicker surfaces).

The available shapes you choose depend on you. We show a triangle on the guide, but you can also easily buy a belt or a trapezoid.

 

Pre-welding PMMA is best done on two sides.
 

 

We put on the quick welding nozzle - keeping the temperature in mind. We start fillet welding - in the video we showed how to do it.

The element to be welded should be transparent, it is important to guide the nozzle and pressure correctly. Leave the device to cool down and turn it off.

By performing the repair in this way, we are sure that the connection is durable.
